Schaumburg-based Motorola Solutions to cut 200 jobs
Schaumburg-based Motorola Solutions Inc. said Tuesday it plans to cut about 200 workers from its Chicago and Schaumburg offices.
The company declined to say exactly where the cuts would take place, but indicated it would be local.
"We are making some workforce reductions as part of previously announced plans to align our global organization with our current business needs. These measures, which include staff reductions and facility rationalization, have been underway throughout the year across all parts of the company, as we continue to size our organization for our current needs as a leaner and more focused company," said spokesman Kurt Ebenhoch.
The company is providing affected employees with severance and other benefits, as well as outplacement assistance, he said.
Last month, Motorola Solutions said it would move its global headquarters to Chicago after operating for about 50 years in Schaumburg.
The company, which makes communications equipment for government agencies and first-responders, also said it would move 800 jobs along with its headquarters operations to downtown Chicago by next summer.
It said about 1,600 employees, primarily software and hardware engineers, would remain in Schaumburg.
In addition, the company's manufacturing and delivery operations with about 200 workers will move from Schaumburg to Elgin by next summer with the potential to hire another 200 workers. This group assembles and customizes radios and network infrastructure equipment.
