'Captain Louie' takes flight at Vero Voce Theater

Vero Voce will present Stephen Schwartz's, "Captain Louie Jr." Produced especially for Halloween, Captain Louie Jr. flies in Friday, Oct. 23, and remains at Vero Voce through Nov. 1. Performances are Fridays at 7 p.m. Fridays; 1 p.m. Saturdays; and 3 p.m. Sundays. Patrons are encouraged to come in costume.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, book by Anthony Stein, based on the children's book "The Trip" by Ezra Jack Keats and featuring a score by Grammy Award-winning composer Stephen Schwartz ("Wicked," "Godspell," "Pippin") "Captain Louie Jr." is a delightfully fresh and touching story.

Louie has just moved to a new town and is nervous to make new friends. Alone in his room he takes flight in his imagination back to his old neighborhood where he spends Halloween with his colorful crew of chums. Over the course of trick-or-treating and being introduced to the new kid in that neighborhood, Louie discovers that making new friends is nothing to be afraid of.

"Captain Louie Jr." will be directed and choreographed by Tony Pellegrino, with vocal direction by Dawn Harkins Vero Voce co-owner. Also assisting with the production are producer and A/V designer Dennis Brown, Vero Voce co-owner and assistant director Amanda Sallmann. It features the talents of Amelia Hutson, South Elgin; Nicole Vandermey, West Chicago; Hayley Giancaterino, South Elgin; Sydney Hostasa, Geneva; Sofia Bringas, St. Charles; Meghan Monroe, Geneva; Jessica Vandermey, West Chicago; and David Brown, St. Charles.

Tickets are on sale now at www.verovoce.com or by phone at (630) 584-0139. Tickets are $18, $15 for senior (65-plus) and student, $10 for children, 12 and younger. All major credit cards accepted.
