Palatine man accused of sexually abusing girl

A Palatine man was ordered held on $750,000 Wednesday on charges he sexually abused a young girl.

Agustin Soto-Morales, 38, was charged with predatory criminal sexual assault after authorities say the girl, who was 7 or 8, told a school social worker about the abuse in September. Soto-Morales was arrested and charged Monday.

Judge Joseph Cataldo also ordered Soto-Morales have no contact with the girl or anyone younger than 18, to surrender his FOID card and any weapons in his possession, and his passport, said Cook County assistant state's attorney David Shin.

The girl told authorities Soto-Morales threatened her younger siblings if she told anyone, Shin said, adding the defendant made a statement to police admitting the abuse.

If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison. He next appears in court on Nov. 13.
