Boys golf: Vernon Hills earns repeat downstate berth

At Park Hills Golf Course on Monday, Vernon Hills qualified for the Class 2A state meet for the second year in a row.

The Cougars placed third in the Freeport sectional with a 323, behind sectional champ Geneseo (319) and St. Francis (321).

Justin Park topped Vernon Hills with a 77, while teammate Brian Favia finished with a 79. The Cougars also counted Taner Fulton's 81 and Ethan Lee's 86. Vernon Hills' lineup also included freshman Sujay Voleti (89) and sophomore Hayden Lau (97).

Park was just one stroke off the medalist round of 76 from Aurora Central Catholic's Mac Cowen.

Vernon Hills finished tied with Kaneland but Voleti's fifth score gave the Cougars the edge.
