New Family-Friendly Concert Series Comes to Northbrook Library

From the monthly Parisian Salon Concerts to the annual Fine Arts Fall concert series, the Northbrook Public Library is known for its wide array of live music performances. On Saturday, November 7 at 10am, the Library is introducing a new string of concerts to the auditorium: a folk music series for families.

The Library has partnered with the Old Town School of Folk Music to create Old Town Family Jam, a concert series designed to be a dynamic folk, pop, and blues music experience that appeals equally to children and adults.

"We're really excited to use our new auditorium in a way that will bring families together to enjoy high quality music," said librarian Anna Fillmore, the creator of Old Town Family Jam. "It's such a special thing to be able to enjoy music, movement, and joy [with children]."

The Dreamtree Shakers are the first Old Town School of Folk Music group to take the stage on for the Old Town Family Jam While their visual surprises and creative movement are sure to excite the children in the audience, their original compositions, as well as cover songs that are cleverly worked into their set, will have adults humming along, too. The Library will host three additional musical performers from the Old Town School of Folk Music in the next year:

• Little Miss Ann, Saturday, January 16, 10:00-10:45 a.m.

• Animal Singdom, Sunday, April 3, 3:00-3:45 p.m.

• The Commotion, Saturday, July 23, 10:00-10:45 a.m.

Each Old Town Family Jam performer, says Fillmore, is equally enjoyable to adults and children.

"The Old Town School of Folk Music is a musical powerhouse in Chicago," said Fillmore. "Their artists excel in what they do."

The Dreamtree Shakers perform in the Northbrook Public Library Auditorium on Saturday, November 7 at 10am.

Old Town Family Jam concerts are free and open to the public. The Northbrook Public Library is located at 1201 Cedar Lane in Northbrook, IL. For more information on Old Town Family Jam, please contact the Library at 847-272-4300 or visit www.northbrook.info.
