Writer misstated GOP positions
This angry 80-year-old white voter does not appreciate the discrimination based on attitude, age or race expressed by a recent letter to the editor from Mr. Tom Minnerick of Elgin.
Minnerick asserts that the GOP is taking stupid positions on a variety of important issues. He states that the GOP derides Mexicans, but he leaves out the word illegal. He ignores the fact that there are laws on the books about immigration which are not being enforced. He further states that the GOP does not support women's rights. Could it be that conservatives do not want to see the barbaric and illegal activities at Planned Parenthood funded by our tax dollars?
He claims the GOP denies climate change. False, climate change is real, and has been since our planet was born. However, there is a legitimate debate raging concerning the cause of climate change, and it is far from settled.
Most Americans want to see Obamacare repealed and replaced by changes within the private market insurance system, such as coverage for pre-existing conditions and allowing insurance carriers to operate across state lines. All one has to see in order to understand government controlled health care is the VA system.
Donald Trump's proposed tax plan is the exact opposite of what Minnerick claims is the GOP position. It does not benefit the fat cats as he claims. Lastly, religious freedoms, particularly Christian beliefs, are under assault from all directions including Obamacare and recent Supreme Court decisions.
