Repeat regional crown for Vernon Hills
Justin Park earned medalist honors to lead Vernon Hills' boys golf team to its second Class 2A regional championship in as many years Tuesday.
Park, a junior, fired a 72 at Nippersink Gold Club in Genoa City, Wis., and Vernon Hills carded a 309 to beat runner-up North Shore Country Day (315) by six strokes. Host Richmond-Burton (350) placed third, three shots better than Lakes (353), to earn the third sectional berth.
Vernon Hills also counted the rounds of sophomores Ethan Lee (74) and Brian Favia (80) and senior Taner Fulton (83).
The at-large sectional qualifiers included Lakes sophomore Adam Nuxoll (83), Wauconda senior Will Rudd (83), Antioch senior Braden Ward (84), Wauconda junior John Herbst (87), Wauconda senior Greg LePage (88), Lakes senior Ian Nuxoll (88) and Antioch junior Nick Farino (89).
Freeport will host the sectional Monday at Park Hills Golf Course (West) in Freeport.
Buffalo Grove regional: At Buffalo Grove Golf Course, Stevenson earned the third and final Class 3A sectional berth.
Highland Park won the regional with a 293, while Barrington (295) and Stevenson (296) were close behind. Fremd (303) was fourth.
Junior Kamaren Sandhu led Stevenson with a 70, followed by freshman Jackson Bussell and junior Jedi Jhu with 75s and senior Zach Orlowsky with a 76. Senior Jake Labow and junior James Dvorak had a 78 and 81, respectively, for the Patriots.
Lake Zurich (seventh, 328) advanced junior Ryan Brandt (77) and senior Matt Gadomski (80).
Fremd senior Eric Schaeffer fired a 68 to earn medalist honors.
