Old news repeating itself in mass shootings
Another school shooting - this time at a community college in Oregon.
If the assailant had thrown a stick of dynamite into a classroom, the public would be outraged about how he got it. That would be the focus of news coverage and debate. Instead, we will not question how he got the gun.
Instead, we will focus on his motive.
The pattern repeats itself over and over again. Shock. Protestations that this kid of thing doesn't happen in this community. Presidential outrage and an eventual visit to the community. A huge uptick in gun sales as the NRA spreads panic that this time of course we will enact reasonable gun controls now - so buy that assault weapon now while you still can.
I have attached the resolution passed by the Oakton Adjunct Faculty Association calling for reasonable gun control, after the shooting at Northern Illinois University in 2008. Old news repeating itself again.
