Mount Prospect woman charged with sexually abusing teen

A Mount Prospect woman charged with sexually abusing a teenage girl was ordered held on $250,000 bail Wednesday.

Maria Silva, 38, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and aggravated involuntary sexual servitude. If convicted of the most serious charge, Silva could be sentenced up to 30 years in prison.

Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Anissa Jordan said Silva and a man who hasn't been found by authorities met the 16-year-old during the summer of 2014, when they rented a room from one of her relatives.

The man moved out after about three months, but Silva stayed until last spring, Jordan said. On Friday, Silva sent the girl a message via Facebook asking if she wanted to earn $200, Jordan said. Silva picked the girl up about 3 a.m. Saturday and drove her to a home under construction on the 1700 block of Magnolia Lane in Mount Prospect, Jordan said.

The girl told police that Silva and the man sexually abused her, then paid her $130, Jordan said. Silva reportedly contacted the girl through Facebook again on Saturday and offered her $500 to have sex with Silva's co-worker, Jordan said.

Silva picked the teen up about 2:45 a.m. Sunday and drove her to the same location as before, where the victim was abused again, Jordan said.

Later Sunday morning, the 16-year-old told her pastor what had happened and was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. On Monday, Silva tried to speak to the girl at her school but was taken into custody by the resource officer, Jordan said.

Silva's background includes probation for a 2013 misdemeanor theft, Jordan said.

Silva next appears in court on Oct. 19.
