Another terrific ESCC finish for Carmel Catholic
Carmel Catholic's girls golf team did more than just win the East Suburban Catholic Conference championship for the third year in a row Monday at Village Greens of Woodridge.
Led by Kayla Ryan's season-best 75, the Corsairs shot a school-record 320, which also set the tournament mark. The Corsairs, who finished 31 shots ahead of runner-up Benet Academy, have gone undefeated the past three seasons in the ESCC and have won the conference tournament outright, as well. Carmel's 320 easily bettered the old school record of 333, which the Corsairs carded this year at the Lake County tournament. St. Viator held the previous ESCC-tournament record (332 in 2009).
Ryan, a senior, finished third behind Benet's Lauren Beaudreau, who earned medalist honors with a 73, and Marian Catholic's Mira Nicpon (74).
Carmel senior Alexa Amato (77) and junior Erin Kehoe (82) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. The Corsairs also counted junior Danielle Savovich's 86 (eighth). The rounds of Amato, Kehoe and Savovich were also season bests. Senior Eva Savovich (89, tie for ninth) and sophomore Charlotte Roberts (91, 11th) also earned medals for Carmel.
Carmel competes in the Class AA Warren regional at Bittersweet Golf Course in Gurnee next Wednesday. The field will also include Antioch, Grant, Grayslake co-op, Lakes, Libertyville, McHenry, Mundelein, Waukegan, Zion-Benton and the host Blue Devils.
