Mark Pysyk breaks tie, Sabres beat Maple Leafs 6-4

Mark Pysyk broke a tie on a power play with 4:55 left and the visiting Buffalo Sabres beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-4 on Friday night.

Pysyk also had two assists, and Sam Reinhart added three assists.

Marcus Foligno, Nicolas Deslauriers, Ryan O'Reilly and David Legwand also scored for the Sabres. Buffalo scored three power play goals, a feat it didn't accomplish in any game last regular season.

Ryan O'Reilly scored short-handed.

Robin Lehner allowed three goals on 25 shots in two periods, and Nathan Lieuwan stopped seven of eight shots in the third.

Matt Frattin, Stuart Percy, Daniel Winnik and Nazem Kadri scored for Toronto. Jonathan Bernier allowed five goals on 32 shots.

BLACKHAWKS ROUT CANADIENS

In Montreal, Kyle Baun scored twice and added an assist in the Chicago Blackhawks' 5-1 victory over the Canadiens.

Ryan Garbutt, Garrett Ross and Jan Hejda also scored for the Blackhawks.

Scott Darling made 22 saves for Chicago, only allowing Zack Kassian's second-period goal.

Carey Price, the NHL's reigning MVP, made 26 saves on 30 shots.

The Blackhawks were without Patrick Kane, the subject of a sexual assault investigation in Buffalo, New York. Kane hasn't been charged.

Jonathan Toews, Corey Crawford, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook and Marian Hossa also sat out.

DUCKS CROWN KINGS

In Anaheim, California, Frederik Andersen made 24 saves to help the Ducks beat the Los Angeles Kings 2-1.

Patrick Maroon scored 6 seconds left in the second period to break a 1-1 tie. Stefan Noesen also scored for the Ducks.

Jonathan Quick made 21 saves in two periods for Los Angeles before giving way to Jonas Enroth. Enroth stopped all seven shots he faced.

Trevor Lewis scored for Los Angeles.

LIGHTNING STRIKE PANTHERS

In Tampa, Florida, Nikita Kucherov scored two goals in the Lightning's 4-1 victory over the Florida Panthers.

Erik Condra and Matthew Peca also scored for Tampa Bay, and Vladislav Namestnikov had two assists.

Ben Bishop stopped all 18 shots he faced in his first exhibition game this season. Bishop played almost half the game before giving way to Kristers Gudlevskis, who made 17 saves.

Vincent Trocheck had a power-play goal midway through the third period for Florida.

Al Montoya made 25 saves on 29 shots for the Panthers.

ISLANDERS DROP PAIR TO FLYERS, DEVILS

In Philadelphia, Brayden Schenn scored early in the second period to help the Flyers beat a New York Islanders split-squad team 5-2.

Chris Porter, Shayne Gostisbehere, Michael Raffl and Matt Read also scored for Philadelphia, and Michal Neuvirth made 23 saves.

Bracken Kearns and Casey Cizikas scored for New York. Christopher Gibson allowed four goals on 20 shots in the first two periods, and Kevin Poulin stopped five of six shots in the third.

The rest of the Islanders also fell short in Newark, New Jersey, falling 4-2 to the Devils.

Mike Cammalleri broke a tie early in the third period, and Reid Boucher, Joseph Blandsi and John Moore also scored for the Devils. Keith Kinkaid made 23 saves for New Jersey.

Ryan Strome and Mathew Barzal scored for New York, and Stephon Williams made 23 saves.

SLEPYSHEV LIFTS OILERS PAST JETS IN OVERTIME

In Winnipeg, Manitoba, Anton Slepyshev scored at 2:43 of overtime to cap the Edmonton Oilers' 4-3 comeback victory over the Jets.

The Oilers overcame a 3-0 deficit in the third period, with Anton Lander, Lauri Korpikoski and Rob Klinkhammer scoring in a 3:42 span. Ben Scrivens made 31 saves for the victory.

J.C. Lipon, Ben Chiarot and Andrew Copp scored for the Jets in the second period. Ondrej Pavelec allowed four goals on 39 shots.

STALOCK LEADS SHARKS PAST COYOTES

In San Jose, California, Alex Stalock stopped 25 shots in the Sharks' 3-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes.

Joe Pavelski and Joonas Donskoi had power-play goals for the Sharks, and Brenden Dillon also scored. Joe Thornton and Dylan DeMelo each had two assists.

Antoine Vermette had a power-play goal for Arizona in the third period.

Anders Lindback and Louis Domingue split time in goal for the Coyotes.

FLAMES TOP CANUCKS

In Calgary, Alberta, Micheal Ferland, Michael Frolik and Sam Bennett each had a goal and an assist in Calgary's 4-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

Sean Monahan also scored, and Jonas Hiller made 25 saves for the Flames.

Jake Virtanen scored for the Canucks, and Richard Bachman and Jacob Markstrom split time in goal.

The teams will meet again Saturday night in Vancouver.
