Man charged with burning cousin in dog cage near Des Plaines
Bond was set at $1 million Friday for a 28-year-old Michigan man charged with forcing his cousin into a dog cage and throwing hot wax on him last year near Des Plaines.
William Bailey, of Grand Rapids, is charged with aggravated domestic battery, unlawful restraint and robbery in a Sept. 30, 2014, incident that took place at his 47-year-old's cousin apartment in an unincorporated area near Des Plaines, according to the Cook County sheriff's office.
Bailey appeared Friday at the Skokie courthouse for a bond hearing. He returned to Cook County Thursday after other cases involving him were resolved in Michigan.
Bailey was apprehended in Berrien County, Michigan, Oct. 12, 2014 - less than two weeks after fleeing Illinois in his cousin's 1992 Toyota Camry.
Authorities say Bailey punched his cousin, confined him to a dog cage, then threw hot wax on him and burned him with a cigarette lighter.
The victim was able to escape and went to the home of a neighbor, who called for help. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, according to the sheriff's office.
