Rotary Club of Waukegan holds annual raffle

This year, the Rotary Club of Waukegan's annual car raffle looked a little different with a 1:24 scale die cast model car and up to $5,000 cash as the winnings.

The winning ticket was pulled Sunday, Sept. 13, in conjunction with the Mis-Shifts Car Club's first Gold Pyramid House Car Show. The winner was Michael Washington, dean of discipline at Abbott Middle School at Waukegan's Community Unit School District 60.

"I've participated in a lot of raffles over the years but never won one," Washington said.

He was delighted when his ticket was pulled from the 896 tickets sold and plans on giving some to his church and some to the Young Men of Vision organization, and taking a trip with his winnings.

"I am so glad that I could help support Rotary's many interests like literacy, world peace, clean water, and the eradication of polio."

The Rotary Club would like to thank the Mis-Shifts Car Club, North Shore Rods, and all participants. Proceeds from all Rotary Club of Waukegan fundraisers benefit Waukegan and local charities and nonprofit organizations of all types.

In 2016, the club will celebrate its 100th year of service to the community with a gala evening. The Rotary Club of Waukegan 100 Year Gala, A Celebration 1916-2016 will be Oct. 21, 2016.
