Six Flags hosting Special Olympics Coaster Challenge on Sunday

Special Olympics Illinois will host the 2nd annual Coaster Challenge on Sunday, Sept. 27, at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee.

Last year's inaugural Coaster Challenge included more than 200 registered participants who raised $50,000. So far this year, nearly 500 participants have signed up to take the challenge.

Participants simply register, fundraise and ride the distance of a 5K, 10K or marathon (26.2 miles) on Great America's roller coasters.

To be a Raging Bull, participants will need to raise $100 and ride a total of a 5K (16,405 feet). To be a Goliath, a rider must raise $250 and ride a total of a 10K (32,810 feet). To go the full marathon, a participant has to raise at least $1,000 and ride a full 26.2 miles.

Six Flags will open the Raging Bull and a surprise coaster at 9 a.m., prior to the park opening at 11 a.m., so participants have a chance to complete their distance if desired. All participants will receive a Flash Pass to all roller coasters for a limited time.

Registration is now open at www.coasterchallenge.com.
