Prospect Heights' story began long before incorporation

Regarding Tom Quinlan's Aug. 23 article, "An hour in Prospect Heights," the article should have mentioned that Prospect Heights was formed by Smith & Dawson in 1938 as the Prospect Heights Improvement Association (and unincorporated until 1976 when voters decided to incorporate).

My parents were the pioneers, having bought their first house in 1938 at Camp McDonald and Route 83 (next to the Shell station, which was converted years ago) and moved to South Parkway in 1941.

The article should have recognized those who were instrumental in forming a new community even though not incorporated. I'm sure that the original owners - including my parents - are no longer alive, but family members are and most likely would like to see this period recognized for those who worked hard in creating a new and viable community.
