Schaumburg offering a break for drivers with unpaid tickets

Schaumburg police are offering a break next month for those with delinquent parking and municipal ticket fines, officials announced Thursday.

Under the village's Ticket Amnesty Program, those with outstanding parking and municipal violations that have reached final determination can have their late fees waived if they pay their fines during the month of October. In most cases, this will result in a 50 percent reduction in the amount due.

The amnesty program, however, does not apply to those with handicap parking violations.

After the program expires at the end of October, vehicle owners will be responsible to pay all fines and fees in full. For those with at least three outstanding and delinquent parking violations, the cited vehicle will remain eligible for immobilization with a "Denver Boot," and those with 10 unpaid parking violations will have their driver's license suspended through the Illinois Secretary of State's Office. Unpaid municipal tickets will remain in the collection process.
