Tiny the Spider signals start of Great America's Fright Fest

Six Flags Great America workers made their annual trek to the top of the American Eagle roller coaster Thursday to install Tiny the inflatable spider, signaling the upcoming start of the Gurnee theme park's Fright Fest festivities.

"Tiny is our mainstay figure here at Six Flags Great America during Fright Fest. We just know how our guests love to see her make her stand every year," said Katy Enrique, communications manager at Six Flags.

It takes eight employees to install the 40-foot wide and 40-foot tall, 200-pound spider on the side of the wooden roller coaster. Tiny has been perched on the American Eagle since 1991, the first season of Fright Fest. Her babies joined Tiny in 2000.

Six Flags announced the spider had died in 2012, but was resurrected in 2013.

Fright Fest begins Saturday, Sept. 26, and runs through Nov. 1.
