Public services to be held Saturday for McHenry County deputy

A public visitation, service and procession will be held Saturday to honor the life of McHenry County Sheriff's Deputy Dwight Maness.

Maness, 47, of McHenry, died of a blood clot to the lungs Monday after he was stricken with cardiac arrest during a rehabilitation session. His death came nearly a year after he was shot while responding to a domestic violence disturbance in Holiday Hills.

The services, which will take place at Woodstock North High School, 3000 Raffel Road in Woodstock, will begin with a public walk-through from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. Starting at 1 p.m., the walk-through will be limited to law enforcement officers and public servants.

A service will take place afterward, and a procession will follow, the release says.

The funeral arrangements are being coordinated by the sheriff's office and Maness' family, officials said.

Maps and information about parking, shuttles, the procession and more will be posted as it is available at mchenrysheriff.org or on the sheriff's office Facebook page.
