Learn about volunteering with DuPage forest district
People interested in helping others discover the wonders and recreational opportunities offered by the great outdoors can learn about volunteer opportunities with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.
The district's Dig In and Volunteer information session is 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at headquarters, 3S580 Naperville Road, Wheaton.
The information session will give an overview of the district's wide range of volunteer opportunities in 11 different programs and highlight some of the more than 50 volunteer opportunities.
District volunteers introduce school groups and families to nature, bring history to life and care for animals. They restore critical habitats, and help visitors explore forest preserve trails and discover new outdoor activities such as archery, kayaking and geocaching.
Adults, youth volunteers and families can choose from a variety of weekly, monthly and one-time opportunities. Scout groups, church groups, corporations and community organizations can coordinate group workdays that bring members together through shared accomplishments.
"Volunteers are essential to the success of many programs and events at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County," forest district President Joe Cantore said. "We strive to offer rewarding experiences, and of course our continual thanks."
