Thousands came to Fox Lake and Antioch to mourn and honor fallen Fox Lake police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz throughout the day yesterday. "When we were growing up, we all knew Joe was a hero," said brother Michael Gliniewicz, an Antioch Fire Department lieutenant. "Now, a nation knows he is a hero." For hundreds, Fox Lake police station was place to mourn

When services for fallen police Lt. Charles J. Gliniewicz were held yesterday at Antioch High School, many wanted to be there. But road closures and an overwhelming turnout by the community made that impossible. So hundreds of other mourners gathered to say goodbye where Gliniewicz spent his three decades in law enforcement: the Fox Lake Police Department. Full story.

Burlington Central graduate drowns in Wisconsin

The body of recent Burlington Central High School graduate, Marquis Hough, was found in Wisconsin's Redgranite Quarry yesterday morning. "Marquis had a warm personality, was kind, respectful, extremely bright, and always willing to be of help," according to a gofundme account set up to help Hough's family pay for funeral services. Three charged with mob action after wedding confrontation near Zion

Three men were charged with mob action, among other crimes, after Lake County sheriff's deputies responded to the call of a confrontation at a wedding near Zion early yesterday morning. After the three men attempted to flee the scene, deputies caught them and found two loaded .380 handguns in their vehicle. Full story.

Retired teacher finally can enjoy carefree Labor Day

Retired preschool teacher, Peggy Swyter of Hoffman Estates, was finally able to enjoy Labor Day without worrying about showing up to work at dawn for the first day of school. Swyter, 61, began teaching preschool when she was 19 and fondly recalls memories of the students she's taught. Full story.

Mundelein hostage situation was a hoax

Someone called in a hostage situation in Mundelein yesterday morning, and police are calling it a "swatting" hoax. The caller told Mundelein police he had a gun and had shot one occupant of the home on Knightsbridge Court. Police were eventually able to reach the owner of the home, who was on vacation. Relatives of the homeowner let police in to verify it was a hoax. Full story.
