Schaumburg Boomers pitched to road victory

NORMAL - The Schaumburg Boomers saw Brett Mabry become the latest pitcher to flirt with a no-hitter in a 5-2 road win over the Normal CornBelters on Saturday night.

Mabry carried a no-hit bid into the sixth inning. The right-hander retired 13 in a row after a hitter reached on an error in the first. Tyler Shover ended the no-hit bid with a double to lead off the sixth. Mabry threw 8 innings, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits with a walk and 3 strikeouts to win his eighth of the year. The Boomers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fifth. Willi Martin led off with a double and scored on an RBI single from TJ Bennett. Bennett came across later in the inning on a single from Cam Sherrer. Michael Valadez hit a 3-run homer in the seventh to provide insurance, his third of the season.
