Boomers smash Wild Things 9-3

The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomer pulled away from the Washington Wild Things late to win the opener of a three-game series by a 9-3 score.

After falling behind 1-0, Kyle Ruchim singled home a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to put the Boomers ahead. Schaumburg did not trail again the remainder of the game. Leading by a single run at 3-2, the Boomers plated 5 runs in the seventh to pull away. Ty Nelson homered in the frame while John Menken provided a 2-run single to really put some distance between the teams.

Eddie Cody worked six innings to earn his 10th win of the year. Cody struck out 5 and allowed 2 runs in becoming the second pitcher in team history to collect double-digit wins. Robby Donovan won 11 games in the inaugural season of 2012. Ken Kirshner paced the offense with 3 hits. Ruchim drove home 3. Cam Sherrer scored 3 runs.

The Boomers (38-53) continue the final home series of the season on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. Right-hander Kagen Hopkins (0-0, 4.70) will make his first start for the Boomers in the matinee against right-hander Jon Klein (3-1, 3.43).
