Fox Lake-area districts cancel Wednesday classes as hunt for suspects continues

Schools in the Fox Lake area will be closed Wednesday as the hunt for suspects continues in the killing of a Fox Lake police officer.

Grant High School District 124, Fox Lake District 114, Gavin District 37, Big Hollow District 38 and Saint Bede Catholic School will all be closed Wednesday.

The districts decided to cancel school around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The districts posted the notice on their websites, saying the decision comes after discussion with village and law enforcement officials throughout the night.

“As a result of those reports and deliberations, we have all decided that it is in the best interests of our students, the community, and law enforcement, to cancel school for tomorrow, Wednesday, September 2, 2015,” notices on the school districts' websites said.

Area schools were on various levels of lockdown Tuesday after the officer was killed and law enforcement searched for three suspects.

Grant High School's after-school activities and bus services were canceled Tuesday, according to school officials.
