Watch for another I-90 ramp closure, this time in Hoffman Estates

If you're accustomed to cruising to Chicago on the Jane Addams Tollway (I-90) from Hoffman Estates, it may be time to rethink your routine.

The Illinois tollway will close the southbound Barrington Road ramp to eastbound I-90 at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, through October.

The inconvenience is necessary to rebuild the ramp. The tollway is widening the Jane Addams between Elgin and the Tri-State Tollway.

The reconstruction will wrap up in 2016 but, in the meantime, suburban drivers are experiencing changes in familiar exits and entrances along the corridor.

All other legs of the Barrington Road intersection remain open.

The Barrington Road interchange project will cost $68 million.

Drivers will be diverted to the Roselle Road interchange. The detour route is south on Barrington Road, east on Higgins Road, east on Golf Road, and north to Roselle Road to the eastbound I-90 ramp.

The interchange currently only provides access to and from Chicago and will be improved to allow access to and from the west. The project also allows for a future Pace park-and-ride facility.
