Donations will help feed a senior

For the fourth year in a row, Allured Business Media of Carol Stream will sponsor an endowment campaign for the Humanitarian Service Project to help provide groceries to a local senior citizen living in poverty.

Allured conducted a successful donation matching campaign last year with HSP, resulting in the permanent addition of a senior to the Senior Citizen Project, and will be lead a new campaign this year. Allured will match every dollar raised by community members for the campaign, up to $7,500.

The campaign aims to raise a $16,000 endowment to permanently enroll a new senior citizen in HSP's Senior Citizen Project. This will provide a low-income senior living in DuPage or Kane counties with a 100-pound monthly grocery package for life. The campaign runs through Friday, Oct. 16.

For more than 80 years, Allured Business Media has been leading the way as a source for global information regarding cosmetic, spa and salon, and fragrance and flavor industries.

The company collects and publishes information in numerous media platforms, although its magazines, conferences and trade shows tend to be the most popular. Allured has partnered with Humanitarian Service Project and successfully raised endowments over the previous three years, resulting in the addition of three seniors to the program so far.

The Senior Citizen Project currently serves 132 low-income seniors living in DuPage and Kane counties with groceries on a monthly basis. Each month, they receive a variety of 15 fresh fruits and vegetables, seven selections of frozen meat, loaves of bread, six bags of nonperishables, and a gift from their Secret Pal.

Every three months, they also receive personal care items such as shampoo, conditioner and other hygiene products.

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates for seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties. Last year during the Christmas Offering Project, 2,014 children received gifts and more than 400 impoverished families received groceries.

The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 925 children. Feed the Kids provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce during the summer months.

HSP conducts an annual school supply drive that benefits more than 3,000 children by giving supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair, Kane County's Project Backpack and directly to schools with a high percentage of poverty.
