Third Ingleside crash victim identified

Authorities have identified the third person killed in a fiery Ingleside car crash as the younger brother of one of the other victims.

James A. Mortensen, 30, of Lindenhurst, was riding in the rear seat of the Kia Optima when it crashed early Wednesday and burst into flames.

Also killed in the accident were Michael S. Mortensen, 33, of Ingleside, and Jon R. McKinney, 30, of Round Lake Beach.

DNA tests were needed to confirm James Mortensen's identity Friday, Lake County sheriff's police said. The Northeastern Illinois Regional Crime Laboratory assisted.

McKinney and Michael Mortensen were identified Thursday using dental records.

The men were heading west along Rollins Road near Grant Woods Forest Preserve at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday when their car went off the roadway and hit a tree, authorities said. The Kia then burst into flames.

The Lake County coroner's office hasn't yet determined whether the three men died from injuries suffered in the crash or in the fire. Toxicology results are pending, Chief Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo said.

The accident is under investigation by sheriff's police.
