Golf fundraiser supports veterans shelter

Golfers and barbecue lovers can help homeless veterans become self-sufficient by taking part in the 10th annual Golf Outing and Texas BBQ Fundraiser to benefit the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans.

The fundraiser on Sunday, Aug. 23, at Klein Creek Golf Club in Winfield features 18 holes of golf in a team scramble format beginning at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. A Texas barbecue buffet dinner follows golf at 6 p.m.

"Since the inaugural event in 2006, the MSHV golf outing has raised more than $204,000 in support of our mission to help homeless and at-risk veterans regain self-sufficiency," said A.J. Leane, event chairman who also serves on the shelter's board. "The golf is again limited to the first 144 paid golfers, so we encourage everyone who wants to join us … to sign up now.

"We also ask interested businesses and individuals to help sponsor our event, so that every dollar we raise can go directly to helping veterans and their families," Leane added. "There is no better way to support these heroes who have served our nation."

Golfers can register online at helpaveteran.org. The cost, which includes 18 holes of golf and a barbecue dinner, is $525 per foursome or $135 for an individual golfer. A limited number of dinner-only reservations are available for $50.

Event and hole sponsorships and opportunities to donate raffle items or purchase raffle tickets are also available. For information, contact Lynne Rowe at (630) 871-8387 or lynne@mshv.org.
