Body of missing Hoffman Estates man found in Chicago

The body of a Hoffman Estates man who went missing under mysterious circumstances Saturday after attending the Chicago Air and Water Show with family was found Monday in a road construction site at the circle interchange of Interstates 290 and 94, police said.

Steve L. Sanchez, 50, disappeared after leaving Burnham Harbor in Chicago about 8 p.m. Saturday with plans to drive his motorcycle to the Inverness area, police say.

Illinois State Police found his motorcycle and cellphone abandoned about 30 minutes later on the ramp of Interstate 290 west to Interstate 94 south, Illinois State Police Sgt. Santos Orta said.

"The motorcycle was located abandoned. There was damage on the motorcycle. There was a search initially that didn't turn up anything," he said.

Construction workers discovered Sanchez around noon today in a road construction site below the ramp, he said.

The Cook County medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy Tuesday morning before an official cause of death can be determined. The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
