Wheaton College couldn't give in
Mr. Johnson from Sugar Grove's letter of Aug. 5 showed he does not understand Wheaton College's position regarding the insurance decision. They are not trying to control students' choices about sex. That is between them and God.
As a school dedicated to God and the principles he expresses in the Bible, they could not simply give in to this assault on their religious freedom and okay something which violates the principles on which this college stands.
Wheaton is a private Christian college. No one is forced to go there, but as with any other organization, students who choose to go there and their parents who pay for their education do need to agree to the policies set forth for them before they ever begin attending. Freedom to choose is not at issue. Freedom of religion is, however.
