Elk Grove, Itasca mayors bring 2,000 comment cards to O'Hare noise hearing

The mayors of Elk Grove Village and Itasca yesterday helped deliver 16 boxes full of comment cards from their residents to FAA officials in an effort, they say, to "help make O'Hare a better neighbor." Craig Johnson of Elk Grove and Jeff Pruyn of Itasca brought the written comments on airport noise of some 2,000 people to the last of four FAA forums about O'Hare International Airport runways at Belvedere Banquets in Elk Grove Village. Prospect Heights to get $30 million assisted living community

Ground breaking on a new assisted living facility in Prospect Heights is expected to begin in early September on a $30 million, 101-unit building. The five-acre project will sit near the intersection of Elmhurst and Palatine roads and one three-story, 69-unit building for assisted living and a one-story, 32-unit building that will specialize in memory care. Toddler found walking alone in Round Lake Park, mom arrested

A Round Lake Park woman was arrested after her toddler daughter was found walking in the street wearing nothing but a dirty diaper, authorities said. The discovery led police to a house where five additional children, ages 3 to 12, were home alone in "filthy" conditions, Police Chief George Filenko said. Full story.

Arlington Heights mayor jumps with Army Golden Knights

Arlington Heights Mayor Tom Hayes took a leap this week - out of an airplane. The last time Hayes jumped from an airplane was almost 40 years ago as a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point jump academy. This time he was strapped to a member of the Army's Golden Knights parachute team in advance of this weekend's air and water show in Chicago. Full story.
