Questions about middle class

Mr. Speaker, your Aug. 5 opinion piece in the Daily Herald, "Let's cooperate, with moderation," initiated a public dialogue. Let's continue that dialogue right here on the pages of the Daily Herald.

You imply that Gov. Rauner's reforms are extreme and will hurt, "every middle-class family in Illinois." I have some questions, Mr. Speaker.

1) Who is the middle class in Illinois? Please define that term.

2) How will a rational, nonpartisan system of redrawing Illinois' districts based upon geography rather than politics hurt the middle class?

3) What negative effects will befall the middle class by disallowing attorneys' choice of venue to better their chance of winning lawsuits?

4) The overwhelming majority of middle-class employees are never injured on the job. How will workers' compensation reforms hurt "every middle class family" (the actual proposed reforms to causation, not the fictitious, scare-tactic varieties portrayed by opponents)?

5) Most of Gov. Rauner's reforms are designed to attract employers to Illinois. Mr. Speaker, how is it that more jobs in Illinois are harmful to the middle class?

6) Please explain how term limits will hurt middle class families.

Who am I to demand answers to such questions? I am an Illinois taxpayer. I am your employer. I pay a good part of your salary.

Right now, your boss is displeased with your extreme lack of cooperation to fix the problems in Illinois. I assure you that I am not the only one upset.

I look forward to your reply.
