Fox Lake's 18th annual Cardboard Cup Regatta will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at Lakefront Park, 71 Nippersink Blvd., Fox Lake.

Anyone who would like to compete in the race can receive a cardboard boatbuilding kit for $30. Kits can be acquired in advance at the Fox Lake Village Hall, 66 Thillen Drive, for off-site boat building, but the fun really begins at 8 a.m. Sunday with registration and on-site building at Lakefront Park, 71 Nippersink Blvd., Fox Lake.

Whether building on or off-site, participants are encouraged to get creative.

Races begin at noon with the youngest group of builders and will work their way up to the oldest age group and business participants as the day goes on.

The day will also feature DJ Bob from Soundwave Entertainment, a bounce house, various vendors, games and food. The event is sponsored by Leinenkugel's, WKQX and The Loop.

All ages are welcome to get involved. All participating children will receive medals, while first- and second-place winners will be awarded trophies, along with awards for Best of Show and Fastest to Sink.

The following categories are open to participants for both on-site and off-site building:

• Ages 10 and under

• Ages 11-14

• Ages 15-20

• Ages 21 and older

• Business entries

Life preservers are mandatory for all participants but will not be provided, so don't forget to bring your own. The day will wrap up once the race and award ceremony concludes around 3 p.m.
