Schaumburg Boomers rally to beat Wild Things

The Schaumburg Boomers overcame an early deficit and held on with the skill of the pitching staff to capture a 3-2 victory over the Washington Wild Things on Sunday.

Starting third baseman Cam Sherrer scored the deciding run of the game with a 2-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sherrer's 4th RBI of the year plated designated hitter Willi Martin, who started off the frame with a leadoff double.

The single culminated a rally of 3 consecutive runs that started in the third inning. Boomers left fielder and Buffalo Grove native Kyle Ruchim lifted a shot off the scoreboard in left field to give the Boomers their first run of the game. Shortstop Craig Massey led off the next inning with a solo home run of his own, tying the game 2-2.

On the mound, Boomers starter Raul Jacobson excelled, tossing 8.1 frames and allowing just 2 runs on the way to his third victory of the season. After allowing a pair of runs in the first, Jacobson tossed 7 plus scoreless innings and allowed just 6 hits. Alan Oaks relieved Jacobson with 1 out in the eighth inning and finished the frame, setting up Dexter Price for his 40th career save in a Boomers uniform.
