Ham & Bacon big at Lake Villa Days

Eager people gathered around the Ham & Bacon Stand holding their tickets as the wheel went around and around Thursday, hoping they would be the next winner on the opening day of Lake Villa Days.

The festival, held in Lehmann Park, is sponsored by the Lake Villa Firefighters Association and runs 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. to midnight Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

"All the proceeds go and help with firefighter training and education," said Lake Villa firefighter/paramedic Ed Kofoed as he grilled hamburgers. "We also take the money and donate to certain charities like the Illinois Burn Camp, a weeklong camp for children that were burned when they were younger."

For musical entertainment, the fest will feature The Modern Day Romeos on Friday and Bella Cain on Saturday, both scheduled to start at 8 p.m.

The highly anticipated water fights begin Saturday afternoon with firefighters from Lake County, McHenry County and Kenosha County battling it out starting at 5:30 p.m. Local business teams will compete Sunday, with registration at 11 a.m. and the water fights beginning at noon.
