Streamwood Fire Dept. gains access to driving simulator

The Streamwood Fire Department is among 12 fire departments that will have the use of an emergency driving simulator, giving drivers practice reacting to challenging road conditions. Funding for the simulator comes though a grant the Department of Homeland Security awarded to Streamwood and 11 DuPage County fire departments. The $218,000 grant will pay for the simulator, and each fire department will have access to it for one month every year. Mounted on an enclosed trailer, the simulator is expected to enhance the department's driver training program by providing a safe environment to practice emergency driving situations.
