Small wonder society is so violent

An opening sentence on the front page of the July 25th Daily Herald spoke volumes. "Many of the nation's teachers are now among the best prepared to handle mass shootings."

It seems like it was only a generation ago that we were concerned about teachers being prepared to teach our children. Could it be that the violence and vulgarity of the movies, music, and television shows of the past couple of decades has been a bad thing?

When the entertainment industry, which our young people idolize, demonstrates little if any respect of persons or human life, it should not be surprising that what we are seeing in our society today is the end result.

I fear that our nation is heading down a very slippery slope. Lord help us, (and our teachers).
