Bringing hot coals upon our own heads

Several letters supporting Mundelein Mayor Lentz regarding his moral comments have cited a biblical view and some have predicted God's judgment for our declining morality. Nonreligious folks typically scoff at such ideas, yet judgment will come but perhaps, not by the means we think.

As example, the Planned Parenthood hubbub. The confusing thing to me are the folks who say, "You would think they would have drawn the line at common decency." Well, that is precisely the problem with Relativism; everyone draws the line at different points down the slippery slope.

Just because you think the line should be drawn higher up the slope doesn't mean anyone else should agree with you. Planned Parenthood made a business decision that flows naturally from allowing the sin of abortion in the first place. They just drew the line further down the slope than others.

Lentz mentioned single parents, who aren't bad people but on average, they are disadvantaged people. Nuclear families when run functionally create the most stable environment emotionally and economically for children, whereas, single parent families face more obstacles. This isn't the result of preachy morality, it is consequences.

God made the universe and the laws of nature. When society as a whole dispenses with moral absolutes, preferring Relativism certain predictions are inevitable. These outcomes are commonly called, "consequences." Actions and consequences are called, "sowing and reaping," in the Bible and we don't harvest in the same season in which we sow. So it is with societal actions and their consequences. Whereas, most people will subscribe to the slowly boiling frog axiom, they often reject the slippery slope argument, yet they are two sides of the same coin. We can't sow sin and pray for crop failure. Like Sodom, we bring hot coals upon our own heads.
