Early offense propels Schaumburg Boomers to win

SAUGET, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers raced to a 6-0 lead in downing the Gateway Grizzlies on the road 8-4 Friday night.

Jordan Dean handed the Boomers a 1-0 lead just two batters in the game, homering over the wall in left. Four runs came across in the second to break open the contest. Ty Nelson delivered a 2-run single and Mike Schulze powered his first homer of the year, a 2-run blast over the wall in right. Willi Martin singled home a run in the third to make the lead 6-0. Gateway fought within 6-4 before a pair of runs in the eighth sealed the decision.

Eddie Cody became the winningest pitcher in franchise history by working six innings and allowing 4 runs to improve to 7-2 on the year. Cody, who won his 15th career game, issued 1 walk and struck out 8. Hideyoshi Otake, Alan Oaks, and Dexter Price combined on the victory. The Boomers lashed 13 hits, with 3 each coming from Schulze, Martin, and Nelson. Alexi Colon added a pair.

The Boomers (27-37) will continue the three-game series at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday.
