Man shot, another hurt in Elgin

A man was shot in the stomach and arm and another suffered a head injury early this morning in Elgin, police said.

Police responded at about 2:45 a.m. to the 0-100 block of North Grove Avenue to a disturbance involving a large group of people and dispersed the group, Elgin Police Cmdr. Ana Lalley said in a news release.

Shortly after, police responded to reports of shots fired and people fighting on the 400 block of Ann Street. Several of those people had been involved in the earlier disturbance, Lalley said.

A 27-year old man suffered a nonlife threatening injury to his head during the fight and was taken to Presence Saint Joseph's Hospital.

Officers chased a vehicle that fled the scene and struck several parked vehicles, Lalley said. The chase ended at Advocate Sherman Hospital.

The male passenger, a 21-year-old, had a gunshot wound to his stomach and arm and was taken into the hospital for treatment of what are believed to be nonlife threatening injuries, police said. The driver, a 23-year-old, was detained for questioning.

Officers found several shell casings in the Ann Street area from two different caliber weapons.
