Join South Elgin's Night Out Against Crime Aug. 4

Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out Against Crime is an event dedicated to crime/drug prevention awareness programs in communities throughout America. South Elgin's event is an award winner and a summertime community favorite!

Come out to meet your Public Safety Team from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Jim Hansen Park, located at Concord Avenue and Valley Forge Avenue.

There will be a family concert with Miss Carole and Clarence of Macaroni Soup. Bring a blanket and your dancing shoes! The singalong, dance-along, do-along concert starts at 7 p.m.

The 2015 event includes: McGruff and friends; special guest Captain Jack Sparrow meet and greet Caribbean style; a Force 45 obstacle course - battle your opponent through this 45-foot obstacle course; and Eurobungy.

At Tammy Town Safety, children learned about the importance and proper use of safety equipment, hand signals and the rules of the road. Students reinforced their new skills with a bicycle road course.

There will be a demonstration by the South Elgin Countryside Fire Protection District's Water Rescue Team.

There will be a Neighborhood Watch Display and Vehicle.

Purchase some Charity Dogs for $3, including a hot dog, chips and drink to benefit FUNdation's Shane's Inspiration Playground.

Kids can enjoy face painting, new Batman Moonwalk/Bouncy House, new Trackless Train Ride, hayrides, games for kids, and the fire district's smokehouse.

Civic Organizations and businesses include: Community Crisis Center, Sherman Health Care, VFW of South Elgin, Super Target of South Elgin, State Farm of South Elgin, Farmers Insurance, Illinois State Police, FBI, Kane County Coroner's Office, Chiro One Wellness Center, American Eagle Bank, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Elgin Lodge No. 12, and ATF K-9.

Emergency and public works vehicles will be on display, so don't forget your camera.
