West Chicago man charged with assaulting two girls

A West Chicago man accused of sexually assaulting the two young daughters of an acquaintance is being held on $1 million bail in DuPage County jail.

Obdulio Lopez-Gomez, 39, of Burr Oaks Drive, is charged with four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault. He faces a sentence of life in prison if convicted.

Prosecutors say Lopez-Gomez sexually assaulted his victims on multiple occasions from February 2013 through July 2015 while he was at their West Chicago home.

The alleged abuse came to light when the victims disclosed the alleged behavior to a trusted adult who in turn contacted the West Chicago Police Department. Police then contacted the DuPage County Children's Center.

"My office takes any allegations of sexual assault very seriously," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement. "My heart goes out to these two young victims as they attempt to come to terms with what Lopez-Gomez has allegedly done to them."

Lopez-Gomez, who prosecutors say is in the United States illegally, is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 24 in front of Judge Robert Kleeman.
