Schaumburg approves new drone rules

Schaumburg trustees Tuesday gave final approval to new regulations prohibiting drones from flying within 100 feet of village-owned property during special events.

Such special events include everything from Septemberfest and its parade along Summit Drive to baseball games and concerts at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium.

While existing state and federal laws satisfied village officials' concerns about spying by drones, they believed additional rules were necessary to protect people from physical injury from flying drones during large public gatherings.
