Schaumburg to Celebrate National Night Out August 4

The Village of Schaumburg is proud to announce its participation in the 32nd Annual National Night Out event, a night where the public is encouraged to come together to raise awareness about crime prevention and safety in the community.

This year's event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4 with Neighborhood Watch Groups, associations and interested neighborhood groups participating. Schaumburg dignitaries and police officials will be visiting block parties.

"National Night Out is a great opportunity for people to come together and get to know their neighbors in a safe environment," said Schaumburg Police Chief Jim Lamkin. "Additionally, the event allows residents to spend some time with our elected officials, members of law enforcement and other first responders who work daily to keep our community safe."

As part of the event, participants may receive a visit from the police bike safety patrol, a Crash Dummy, McGruff or even one of the Schaumburg fire trucks.

The Schaumburg Barn will be hosting a free intergenerational event from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. for Schaumburg area seniors & teens where attendees can enjoy pizza, ice-cream and bingo. The event, which takes place at 231 S. Civic Dr. in Schaumburg, will also be attended by police and fire officials as well as well as the village's government officials. For more information, contact the Senior Barn/Teen Center at (847) 524-7496.

The public can also attend the free Schaumburg Park District block party that will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4 at Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way. Participants will enjoy games, contests, a DJ, sidewalk chalk play and meeting Schaumburg police officers and firefighters. Open swim in Meineke Pool will be available from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. For additional details, contact the Schaumburg Park District at (847) 985-2144.

Celebrated across the country, National Night Out is designed to heighten drug prevention and crime awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts, and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships. The event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) together with Target Corporation.
