St. Charles teen accused of crashing stolen truck into minivan, hurting man

A 17-year-old St. Charles boy has been accused of driving a stolen pickup truck, running a red light and crashing in to minivan seriously injuring its driver Sunday in North Aurora.

The teen, who lives on the 38W300 block of Route 64, is being held at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center, according to a news release from North Aurora police. Police did not release the teen's name.

According to police, the youth stole a 2005 Dodge 1500 pickup truck in Aurora. He drove south on River Road (Route 25), ran a red light and struck a Dodge Caravan that was driving east on Butterfield Road. The boy and a female passenger ran off, but police found them about a half-mile away.

The boy has been charged with unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a converted motor vehicle, disobeying a traffic-control signal, leaving the scene of a personal-injury crash and driving without a valid license.

The Caravan's driver, a 44-year-old Glendale Heights man, was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, then transferred to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Police said Monday he remains in serious condition.
