Miffed they couldn't dance at concert

Recently the country artist Travis Tritt played the Elk Grove free summer concert series. During several of the songs my husband and I got up to dance as did some people in the group next to us and several rows behind us.

A couple behind us was quite annoyed, despite the fact that Travis was encouraging it throughout the show, with one lyric stating, "If the music makes you move it can't be wrong". Being that it is not assigned seating, I am not sure why the couple didn't just move if they were so unhappy.

About halfway through the show the police began telling us and other dancers that we had to sit down, or move to an area that was off to the side behind some barricades.

After the show was over, we continued our unfriendly conversation with the couple behind us, only to find out that the gentleman is a sitting village trustee in Elk Grove.

I am not sure why dancing was an issue. I am sure we were not breaking some "Footloose"-like village ordinance. If we were posing a safety risk the police wouldn't have waited that long to stop us.

More bothersome was the trustee denying that the concerts are funded by our tax dollars. (Even if) the price paid for the artists may come out of some other budget, the plethora of police and fire personnel present at the concerts are absolutely paid from taxes.

We gathered our chairs and walked home feeling very different from how we had anticipated.
