Don't see Barreto as enlightened heroine

Being new to McHenry County, I have never heard of Denise Barreto until reading the recent articles about her in the Daily Herald.

As an old white guy, 62, I struggle to understand the praise for her. OK, I get Constable's adoration, but she sure comes off sounding racist. She wants what is best for her family. God bless her, who doesn't?

How revealing her statement that there are plenty of welcoming white people in McHenry County, just too many of us.

Is she really racist? I don't know, but in today's culture, society labels people who disagree with our president racist. It's an easy word to toss around.

She also states whites' values are lacking, as well as their empathy. Boy, that sounds confrontational, and insulting.

I wish her and her family well. Evanston's a good town. But I don't see her as the enlightened heroine that the Daily Herald does.
