Dunkin' Donuts to open a Sleepy Hollow location

The bedroom community of Sleepy Hollow could see a bump in sales tax revenue with the addition of a Dunkin' Donuts.

Located in the Springhill Meadows shopping complex, the new shop and drive-thru will occupy space in the eastern portion of the building that houses Advance Auto Parts, 1055 W. Main St., said Village President Stephan Pickett.

"We're looking forward to it," he said. "I think it's a great thing to be coming to that part of the neighborhood."

In a village that serves mostly as a bedroom community, the addition of a coffee and doughnut shop could greatly contribute to the annual $30,000 Sleepy Hollow receives in sales tax, Pickett said.

With upcoming construction of the Spring Hill Mall redevelopment project across the street, a new Dunkin' Donuts couldn't come at a better time, Pickett said. Construction workers and a slew of new patrons could soon make the mall a high-traffic area, he said, from which Dunkin' Donuts could draw in some customers.

Behind the building that will house the new Dunkin' Donuts is a strip mall that includes a Rosati's Pizza and La Bamba Mexican Restaurant and Cantina, both of which generate a large portion of the village's current sales tax, Pickett said. But some spaces, like a former fitness center, sit empty.

"We'd like to see some good utilization of the space that we've got available," he said.

Pickett said he isn't sure when the new location will open. Dunkin' Donuts representatives will first have to appear before the Zoning Board of Appeals, which will meet next month, as well as the Planning Commission.

In the meantime, the village is eagerly anticipating the opening, he said.

"We'll see a little something from them in the sales tax generated, which will be helpful to the village," he said. "I wish them the best of success."
