Rolling Meadows man charged with burglarizing vehicles

A Rolling Meadows man was ordered held on a total bail of $75,000 on charges he stole items from five vehicles near Kirchoff and Rohlwing roads in Rolling Meadows between May and July.

Frederick Ali, 22, who appeared in bond court Tuesday, was charged with five counts of burglary, a class 2 felony that carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.

Rolling Meadows police received a call about 2:45 a.m. Sunday reporting a suspicious person attempting to open car doors on the 2200 block of Rohlwing Road, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Anisa Jordan. Police arrived and found Ali, who matched the caller's description. Ali had with him a backpack containing three Apple iPads and loose change, Jordan said.

Ali, who has no criminal background, told police he had taken items from vehicles in Rolling Meadows and Arlington Heights and pawned some of the items, Jordan said.

Police recovered electronics including iPads and cellphones from the defendant's bedroom, Jordan said.

Ali next appears in court on Aug. 13.
