New second in command in Des Plaines Police Department

Chester Zaprzalka has been appointed as one of two deputy police chiefs in Des Plaines, following the retirement of Nick Treantafeles.

Zaprzalka, formerly the commander of support services, was sworn in Monday to the deputy chief position, in which he will be responsible for administrative side of the police department, including investigations, records, training, traffic, special events, community service officers, crime prevention, community action team, fleet and technical unit, and the lab/property unit.

Treantafeles was honored by the city council with a proclamation for his 32 years with the force.

Also promoted this week was Scott Moreth, from detective sergeant to commander of patrol operations, and Michael Chapman, from police officer to sergeant of patrol operations.
