Chorale seeks support for European tour

Members of the Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale will share their love for singing with a choir from Le Bouscat, France, next June when the chorale visits Glen Ellyn's sister city and performs with a local choir as part of its 2016 performance tour.

The sister city partnership between Glen Ellyn and Le Bouscat was formed to foster mutual opportunities for cultural, educational and economic exchanges that highlight the diversity and rich culture of the two international communities. Le Bouscat is in the Bordeaux region and is similar to Glen Ellyn in its population, strong local economy and vibrant and engaged citizenry.

The Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale will travel from Barcelona, Spain, through Carcassonne, Sarlat-la-Caneda, the Dordogne and Bordeaux, France, from June 17 to 26, 2016. The 10-day tour will include formal and informal performances at various venues, such as Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, the Basilica of St. Nazaire in Carcassonne, and the Sarlat Cathedral in Sarlat-la-Caneda.

Now celebrating its 30th anniversary, the Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale is an independent, not-for-profit, auditioned community singing group of more than 60 members directed by Greg Wheatley. Area residents are invited to the Christmas "Wintersong" concerts, as well as the spring concerts.

The chorale is raising money to help defray the cost of travel and equipment involved with the trip. To donate, visit gofundme.com/gewctour2016 or gewchorale.org/tour.
